Listless Things- Yarn, Thread and Fancy Gingerbread

I apologize for my absence as of late. I have been occupied with Christmas time set up, as I'm certain most of you are as well. That doesn't stop me from wanting to post more often, for which I have a wonderful solution. Why not create one post with a bunch of little posts! voila! Problem solved. I shall call it "Listless Things."

Fashion///If you absolutely have to wear an ugly sweater, why not this one?

Crochet///These seem easy to make and way better than a bean bag :)

Knit///I have had my eye on this pattern for some time. I wish I came across this tutorial much sooner.

Art///This threaded rendition of van Gogh's Starry Night is amazing! The original sits in The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York and while it isn't a hop skip and a jump away from the Midwest, a pilgrimage is in the works.

Food///I think that instead of irish sweater cookies, and seeing as though I am sans sweater cookie cutter..... I may attempt a batch of ugly sweater gingerbread men... and women.

It is cloudy and rainy here in Illinois. Perfect for knitting and baking, which happen to be two of my most favorite past-times. I am serious about those cookies. Pictures will be taken and icing enjoyed by all. (and by all I refer to myself and The Minion)

We talked about Christmas knitting way back in July, but I'm afraid in between knitting for family and The Minion I have forgotten to knit myself anything for the inevitable cold weather. So here is my winter knit list:

A pair of cute mittens

A very warm scarf/cowl

Now granted, I am a bit behind and have more than a few WIP's hanging around in Limbo, but I remain optimistic that I can pull off a few more projects just in time for the first frost. In fact, I think I can whip up a pair of mittens, seeing as though they are a sewing project, and a couple of head wraps, for myself and my sister, with plenty of time to get a little cowl action! As for the leg warmers, I'd love to knit up a pair, right after I buy myself a nice pair of hunter boots to go with them. A girl can dream, can't she?

Curious indeed! Designed by Husband and Wife duo, Christopher and Diane Serviss, you can find their signature hat pattern via Etsy or Ravelry for 5 bucks. It's knit with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick on Size 13 needles. (Chunky yarn on large needles! What's not to love?)

Every knitter dreams of selling their wares. Although there are many online forums to do so, considering my background in retail, I am attracted to craft fairs. I love interacting with customers and being part of a group of crafters who just plain love what I love. I'm not quite there in terms of selling but Diane shares some advice on how to build a creative business with Lisa Jacobs, of Marketing Creativity. Her best marketing strategy?

"Hang out where your potential buyers hang out. It sounds somewhat simplistic, but it works. There is a buyer for everything and those people tend to have similar likes and interests as the artist who makes the items. Find groups ..online and off.. and participate in them. I participate in a lot of knitting and crochet sites, forums and local meetings."

My knitting season has officially begun! Every year I start knitting gifts to give away for Christmas...

Yes, I am the crazy sister/aunt/cousin/friend who loves to send things that people most likely stash in their closet all year long and forget about..... Yet I do it anyway. It's how I show someone I care :) I'm not a heartless witch after all! (At least around the holidays, I'm not)
