A Very Gorey Christmas to You!

I just ordered my christmas cards from The Gorey Store, not to send but to add to my collection. Earlier this week I was at a thrift store and came accross a bunch of Edward Gorey christmas cards for 50 cents each. Although I bought a select few to send out, this year I decided to collect his Christmas cards. One box every year for as long as they are available.

This particular illustration is entitled, "She Knitted Mufflers Endlessly" and was originally published in Gorey's book The Glorious Nosebleed. Perfect for a knitter such as myself! I got so excited I decided to post it as my wallpaper.....

We talked about Christmas knitting way back in July, but I'm afraid in between knitting for family and The Minion I have forgotten to knit myself anything for the inevitable cold weather. So here is my winter knit list:

Now granted, I am a bit behind and have more than a few WIP's hanging around in Limbo, but I remain optimistic that I can pull off a few more projects just in time for the first frost. In fact, I think I can whip up a pair of mittens, seeing as though they are a sewing project, and a couple of head wraps, for myself and my sister, with plenty of time to get a little cowl action! As for the leg warmers, I'd love to knit up a pair, right after I buy myself a nice pair of hunter boots to go with them. A girl can dream, can't she?

Dear Diary: I Suck at Crochet!

Dear Diary...

This weekend marked a revelation of sorts. I SUCK AT CROCHET! I can knit at an intermediate level but can't seem to single crochet to save my life. How is this possible? It's not for lack of trying. I sat for an hour and only managed to get the front of my Gingerbread House done! GRRRR.... I'm going to get my Gingerbread House done by this weekend but I won't promise that I'll pick up another hook ever again!

On a lighter note, I have begun swatching for my next project. It shall be a tree skirt. The very same tree skirt I have been promising my husband that I would knit ever since I began to knit! Is it my fault that I got sidetracked for about.... 3 years? Anyway, I never ever swatch but boy am I glad I took the time out to check my gauge. The pattern calls for size 10s but (two swatches later) I figured out that I should use size 11s. I begin my tree skirt this weekend. . . . After my Gingerbread House is done.

P.S
I didn't have the correct hook size and ended up with a HUGE ornament. After finishing it I think it will go on the bottom of my tree.... somewhere in the back.
*single tear*sniff*sniff*

My knitting season has officially begun! Every year I start knitting gifts to give away for Christmas...

Yes, I am the crazy sister/aunt/cousin/friend who loves to send things that people most likely stash in their closet all year long and forget about..... Yet I do it anyway. It's how I show someone I care :) I'm not a heartless witch after all! (At least around the holidays, I'm not)
